BULLIED: Is This Term Overused!

Originally aired

Last week on Playing Devil’s Advocate hosted by Ms. KiKi and the crew discussed  the relationship between FATHERS & SONS and if you missed the live show the archives are a must!  PDA wants to show love to our Producer Extraordinaire by wishing Chandra a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!  Now back to business and this week’s topic, Bullied: Is This Term Overused?  As always Shaun, Sporty and Ms. KiKi took this topic, looked at from a fresh point of view and Edutained™ the masses!

Let us start with the definition of bullying:

Use superior strength or influence to intimidate (someone), typically to force him or her to do what one wants; the use of force, threat, or coercion to abuse, intimidate, or aggressively to impose domination over others. The behavior is often repeated and habitual. One essential prerequisite is the perception, by the bully or by others, of an imbalance of social or physical power.

Our host KiKi kicked off the show with some education and broke down the different types of bullies.  The types ranged from the physical bully to cyberbully and it was the latter that sparked the passionate responses.   Shaun and Sporty chimed in with some personal info that gave insight into whether they themselves may have been bullies. I personally dislike all bullies, but I wasn’t quite sure how cyberbullying worked until this show.   So, be sure to listen to the archives to hear Sporty’s first poem and confession of the night

Shaun received some pretty combative responses to his commentary on nature or nurture as it pertains to bullying;  and at the beginning of his monologue I was all in, but as always, he lost me somewhere in the middle when he started talking about protecting your territory.   Help me out PDA family by listening to the archives and leaving an explanation by way of comment below.  KiKi was very passionate about whether bullying is instinctive or a learned behavior.

What constitutes a bully was discussed next.  Shaun gave examples of the different characteristics of bullies.  What surprised me was that both the bully and the victim share many of the same characteristics.  As Shaun continued to discuss what makes or creates a bully and what an adult victim may look like led the conversation to the hot button topic of adult bullying.  I am going to have to agree to disagree with KiKi and the chat room and continue to believe that adults can be bullied.  Listen to the archives  then comment below to let me know what you think.

The subject of adults bullying truly fired up both the panel and the chat room.  A PDA repeat offender, Mablene was really vocal and simply said adults who cry bully are babies.  So looking at it from a different angle Sporty gave us a different way to look at the bully.  As expected bullies have some underlining issues that need to be addressed.  Again, the victim as well may need a little couch time.  Listen to the archives and learn how bullies use differences as an excuse for their bad behavior.

The producer once again came with the real with Head Banger.  This week’s Drink of the Week, is sure to have to someone getting as KiKi said, “a shot to the mouth“.  One of the ingredients is Rumple Mintz and all true PDA family knows that this is the worst tasting mess ever.  The Producer told us that herself!  Well, gather your ingredients, download to the Archives and get ready to BANG YOUR HEAD!

A true head banging question is “Can an ADULT really be bullied”?  First, KiKi broke down how men and women bully very differently.  I used to believe that men were the worst kind of bullies, but as I matured and encountered some in my life, I know for a FACT women are the worst bullies!  Men are more physical, but women can play with your emotions like no other.  Of course adult bullying could not be discussed without talking about the Miami Dolphins and Ritchie Incognito.  This story is just plain strange to me.  Now I am a true believer that work place bullying exist, while KiKi believes this is a bunch of mess and labels it “creating a hostile work environment”.  Whatever you call it I just don’t understand a 300+ pound man allowing someone to intimidate him, let alone impose domination over him as the definition suggests.  As always the blog is but a piece of the total Playing Devil’s Advocate™ pie.  Listen to the archives to get some resources that may help you or someone you know out of bullying situation.

A little before getting to the weekly advice letter, the crew was joined by Rocky Miller who I believe is truly crazy.  This week’s “Ask PDA” letter is brought to you by the DOW HEAD BANGER; and my advice for “Too Little to Late” is don’t let the pathetic and small minded few have that much power over your life.  Follow your mature heart and if it tells you the hell with them then so be it.  Listen to the archives and the letter in its entirety and hear the panel’s advice.

Join us next week as PDA plays its version of 20 Questions…”To Tell the Truth” and this show is sure to be a treat!
